Obituary for Father Frank A. Bussmann

Fortified with the Sacraments and surrounded by his family, Father Frank A. Bussmann passed away at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on November 24th, 2017.

Frank was born on May 2, 1945, in Naples Italy, the oldest of six children of the late Norbert Vincent and Concetta Maria (Tina) (Scafora) Bussmann. He is survived by siblings: John Bussmann (Gina Kaskie), Mary Adams, Lisa Stein, Tom Bussmann and Ed Bussmann. Frank has four sons who survive him: Samuel Bussmann (Christina Mullen) of Columbus, Ohio, Joshua Bussmann (Amanda LaBoo) and Charles Bussmann (Anne Barry) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Stepson Matthew Bussmann of Hilton Head Island. He has seven grandchildren: Brayden, Ryan, Connor, Olivia, Luke, Owen, and Ethan. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law Jim Adams & Paul Stein.

Frank attended Immacolata Elementary School, St. Louis University High School, the University of Notre Dame and St. Louis University School of Law.

Frank took one year off in Law School for military duty and served in the US Army Reserves from August 1968 to August 1974, reaching the rank of Specialist 5.

Before going into private law practice, Frank was an assistant prosecutor for the State of Missouri and a federal prosecutor for the US Attorney’s office in St. Louis. Following 25 years in private practice, Frank entered seminary at Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wisconsin in 2003, graduating with a Masters in Divinity in 2006.

Father Frank was ordained to the Holy Priesthood of Jesus Christ on December 16, 2006, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph by His Excellency, Bishop John R. Gaydos for the Diocese of Jefferson City.
He served as associate pastor at St. Peter Church, Jefferson City, from 2006 to 2009, pastor at Immaculate Conception Church, Montgomery City from 2009 to 2011, and pastor at St. Peter Church, Fulton and St. Jude Thaddeus Church, Mokane until his death.

Frank had two great passions in his life: his faith and his family. He took great satisfaction in being a pastor and working with his parishioners. He was so grateful to be a part of and welcomed into the communities of Jefferson City, Montgomery City, Fulton and Mokane. With his family, he was so happy to just be “Dad” or “Grandpa Franky.” His family brought an instant smile to his face and joy to his heart.

Visitation will be at St Peter Church, Fulton, Missouri, on Monday, November 27, 2017, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., with the Wake Service at 7:00 pm. There will be visitation again from 9:00 am to 10:30 am the following morning. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Church. A meal will follow the Mass in the gym at St. Peter’s. A private burial will be later at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Roman Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City are suggested and can be mailed to Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.
