Obituary for Peggy Gales Huey

Peggy Gales Huey, 85, of Fulton, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2016 at Fulton Manor Care Center.

She was born on July 8, 1932 in Pigott, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Carl Finch Gales and the late Opal (Williams) Gales

On December 11, 1951, Peggy was united in marriage to Dennis James Huey. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2014.

Peggy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fulton where she served many years on the Social Committee, Finance Committee, taught Sunday School Class to children and adults and sang in the choir. She was a real estate broke in Callaway County for several years. She was a teacher for Missouri Department of Education, serving severely handicapped children in Callaway and Audrain Counties for 20 years. Peggy was chosen Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1982 for Callaway County by the Region III Developmental Disability Association. She did volunteer work for the Missouri Association for the Disabled, Meals on Wheels, and served for nine years on the Callaway County Special Services Board. Peggy retired from teaching and owned and operated Fulton Carpet and Cabinets for 18 years. She was a charter member of the Republican Women’s Association of Callaway County and a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Missouri.

She loved music, sewing, ceramics, craft projects, playing cards, and camping with her church friends.

Peggy is survived by two daughters, Carla Sue O’Neal and friend Gus Polacek, and Liz Books (Bill); son, Andy Huey (Susan); and grandchildren Madison (Madison) Books, Will Books (Amy), and Paul Books, Ashton Eibel (Mike), Jamie and Andrew Huey; and one great-granddaughter, Addalynne Eibel. She is also survived by two sisters, Pauline Nelson of Dexter, and Joan Osborn of Benton, Ar.; and many nieces and nephews.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; parents; two brothers, Donald and Norman Gales; sister, Maxine Webb; and son-in-law, Jon O’Neal.

Private graveside services will be conducted at Callaway Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Kingdom Christian Academy, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.
