Obituary for Charles Edward Martin

Charles Edward Martin, 82, of Fulton passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018.

He was born in Callaway County on November 17, 1935, the son of the late Berry Freeman Martin and the late Ruby Frances (Day) Martin.

On October 31, 1958, Charlie was married to Doris Lavina (Rockwood) Martin who survives his passing.

Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Local 662, Equipment Operators Union and a Hodge Carrier. Charlie was good with his hands. He could fix anything and loved to tinker with cars. He liked to attend car auctions, go to the Friday Night Auction, and go dancing on Saturday night. Charlie enjoyed having coffee and conversation with his friends. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved smoking his pipe and found it very relaxing. He found the most pleasure in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Those remaining to mourn his passing include his wife of 59 years; sons, George Martin of Fulton, David Martin (Joan) of Steedman, Jerry Willis of Nevada, and Dean Green (Dawn) of Holts Summit; daughters, Ruby Serini (Charles Jr.) of Steedman, Doreene Sherrell (Alan) of Jefferson City, Teresa Martin (Jon Wallace) of Harrisburg, Renay Browning (Cloyd) of Auxvasse; twenty-six grandchildren; sixty-one great grandchildren; and best friend, Colleen Moore.

Along with his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by daughter, Letha Laughlin; brothers, Pepper Martin, and Bobby Martin; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
