Obituary for Edward P. Brandt

Edward P. Brandt, 78, of Fulton passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Parkside Manor in Columbia.

He was born on July 14, 1939 in Fulton, the son of the late Eldon Marion Brandt and the late Thelma Beatrice (Salmon) Brandt.

Ed married Kay (Salmons) Brandt in 1961. She preceded him in death in 1996. In 2002, Ed married Barbara (LaRue) Brandt who survives his passing.

You would be hard pressed to live in Fulton and not have interacted with Ed in some way. He loved people. His customary greeting was a warm smile, firm handshake, and an occasional joke followed by a joyous laugh. He gave everyone the impression he was always glad to see or meet them. He touched so many lives with his community contributions: Past president of the Fulton Breakfast Optimist Club, President of the Fulton Country Club, Fulton Public School Teachers Association, MyKee Investment Club, Jefferson City Apple Computer Club, Presbyterian Manor Advisory Board and Fulton’s Retired Teachers Association. It was as an educator where Ed had his greatest impact- teaching mathematics at Fulton High School for 31 years. He was Department head for 25 years and, in 1981, he introduced computer programming classes to the school system. Fulton is filled with families, as many as three generations deep, that had Ed as their educator. He enjoyed seeing his students succeed and was proud to share that they were once in his class. It was amazing to watch him enter a social setting and point out just how many people in attendance were his past pupils.

He was a competitor too, seldom sitting still. Ed Brandt was always on the go—from playing golf, billiards, and bowling to fly fishing and refurbishing antique furniture. He was a man with many skills and a personality to match. As his friends at the sale barn know, he could also play a mean game of cards. His mathematician mind was always ahead of the other players. In a battle of odds, Ed had the advantage.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara of the home; son, Edward Dale “Chip” Brandt and his wife Mary Kay; daughter, Katharyn Kay “Candy” Neuner and her husband Brian; step-children, Beth Raejean Smith Colley, Brooke LaRue Smith, and Brett Kenneth Smith; brother, Dr. E. Dale Brandt of Jacksonville, Fl.; grandchildren, Megan Brandt Durham, Tyler Brandt, Hayley Brandt, Clayton Neuner, Caroline Neuner, and Cayleigh Neuner; step-grandchildren, Ryan Colley and Shea Colley; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and first wife, Ed was preceded in death by sister, Rosann Lee.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church of Mexico, Mo. with Reverend Terry Kukuk officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton. Interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

Memorial donations are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association, Fulton Public Schools Foundation, or First Presbyterian Church of Mexico Choir, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.
