Obituary for Elton "Cork" Maddox

Elton “Cork” Maddox, 85, of Fulton was called to his Heavenly home on Monday, March 19, 2018.

He was born in Callaway County on December 1, 1932, the son of the late Fay Moore Maddox and the late Winnie Lee (Harvey) Maddox.

On November 8, 1958, Cork was married to Bonnie (Derleth) Maddox. She survives his passing.

Elton proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Harbison Walker in 1995 after nearly 40 years of service. In his younger years, he enjoyed squirrel hunting and fishing. He was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed attending auctions, was a gifted wood-worker, and was well known for his knowledge of antique tools and his ability to fix most anything. A gifted story teller, Cork could often be found sitting around the pot-belly stove with other members of the Liar’s Club at Crane’s Store. Family time was always of great importance to Cork. In his younger years, Elton became a member of Hams Prairie Christian Church. In his later years, he attended Court Street United Methodist Church.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years; daughter, Beth Ann Martin and her husband Terry of Columbia; brother, Jack Maddox of New Bloomfield; sister, Juanita Bura (David) of Fulton; grandsons, Eric Martin and his wife Jenna of Overland Park, Ks. and Matthew Martin of Columbia.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Along with his parents, Cork was preceded in death by; step-mother, Louise Maddox; sisters, Ruth Edwards, Betty Nichols, and Treva Vandeloecht; brothers-in-law, Fred Edwards, B.J. Nichols, and Robert Vandeloecht; and sister-in-law, Eva Maddox.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverend Rebecca Peak officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
